Life

Howard B. Brown, Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center

Life is here to be wisely used,
Not wasted, nor heedlessly abused.
Life is here to be filled with love,
Given freely like the flight of a dove.

Life is here to be filled with joy,
Not discarded like a broken toy.
Life is here to be for helping others,
This we learn from watching mothers.

Life is here to be for having fun,
Not just taken on the run.
Life is here to be a journey that’s shared,
Especially with a father that has cared.

Life is here to be for us to really try,
Not giving up during a sorrowful cry.
Life is here to be at times sweet to smell,
Like rose scents when being unwell.

Life is here to be nice to those we meet,
Not for giving a hostile insulting greet.
Life is here to be free from strife,
So we can appreciate our life.

Life is here to be for making friends,
Not for saying harsh words that offends.
Life is here to be like a good book,
It needs time, effort, and a good look.
