This year, our student chapter has hosted a wide range of events. In the spring semester, we hosted a movie screening “Philadelphia” to help raise awareness about employment discrimination against LGBTQ individuals. We also hosted a panel on the “School to Prison Pipeline” where we brought in speakers from Massachusetts Advocates for Children, CPCS Youth Advocacy Division, Citizens for Juvenile Justice, and a former Juvenile Judge to talk to students about the incarceration epidemic in Massachusetts. We hosted a panel on the Opioid Epidemic and had attorneys speak about their work in Mass Tort Litigation.
This fall, we hosted a movie showing playing “Evidence” for domestic violence awareness month. Following the movie, we had a discussion about policies to hold states accountable for rape kit testing. We hosted a social event where students were able to make button pins to support causes such as decriminalizing homelessness, woman rights, and anti-racism. In November, we hosted a panel on Mental Health Litigation discussing the role race and economic status effect treatment in mental health proceedings.
