MIRA is a coalition of organizations dedicated to advancing the rights of immigrants and refugees across New England. Founded in 1987, its more than 140 member organizations engage in a wide range of activities aimed to help those who arrived in Greater Boston from another country, with services ranging from on-the-ground assistance, to advocating for policies at the highest levels of government. In addition to working together as a coalition, MIRA also provides services including:
- voter registration
- citizenship application assistance
- delivering Know Your Rights presentations and providing other community facing and multilingual resources
- grassroots organizing around state policy and budget priorities
- legal trainings
- an Immigration Legal Helpline
- the Immigration Assistance Services program
- Americorps New American Integration Program
“This country is a nation of immigrants who work tirelessly day in and day out to provide a better life for themselves, their families, and generations to come,” said Elizabeth Sweet, executive director of the coalition, in a statement issued the day after Trump began his second term.
